| Dr. James S. Kyle
Family Cemetery - Panola County, Texas Kyle & Related |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Located on the bank of McFadden Creek at old homeplace of Dr. Kyle, there are reportedly 9 or 10 graves with Dr. Kyle's being the only one that still had a marker on it. Reportedly a tree fell on it and broke it some years ago. There are approximately 9-10 graves. It has been handed down through the generations that Amanda Malvina Kyle, widow of Dr. James S Kyle & divorced wife of James Morris, was so crippled from rheumatism that she was buried in a sitting position. Amanda also was a nurse to the community during the Civil War. James Russell Grace bought the land from Paris Pace, nephew of Dr. King, and moved to Panola County in 1861/62. His estate was probated in Jan 1865. * |

Robert E KYLE was appointed administrator of his brother's estate which consisted of some $50,000. The widow JOHNSON KYLE made application to be appointed administratrix of her husband's estate Amanda M but her application was ignored by the Court and Robert was appointed. After several years of court proceedings, the Estate was finally settled, peacefully. A public sale was held and Amanda bought 2 old Negro slaves (Jim & Millie), paying $150. each. The 2 slaves were later buried at the old Dr. KYLE Cemetery. *James
Russell Grace and Charlotte (maiden
name still unknown) came to Texas from Alabama in the
late 1840's. They settled in Upshur County.
While they lived there, their oldest daughter Nancy
"Nannie" Grace married Frank
Methven. Frank died during the Civil War.
The Methven infant that is buried in the
James Kyle cemetery, is the child of
Nannie & Frank. After the Civil War Nannie
Grace Methven married Wm Hill
and had other children. James Russell Grace
bought land from Paris Pace, a kinsman
of yours, and moved to Panola County in 1861 or '62.
His estate was probated in January of 1865. Charlotte
Grace died in 1868 or '69. They and their Methven
grandchild are buried in the private cemetery
that was already on the land they owned. According
to both the 1850 and 1860 census they were both born
around 1810. |

Family Cemetery - Panola County, Texas Kyle & Related |

Located on Old Robert E Kyle Homeplace in Old Center, Panola County, Texas Family legend has it that (my) Robert E KYLE & his brother, Dr. James S KYLE, had an agreement that the one who died first was to manifest his spirit to the other if there was such thing as "spirit life". One night Robert E was riding by Dr KYLE's cemetery (which was on the banks of McFadden Creek & the homeplace of his still living sister-in-law, Amanda KYLE. He saw a strange light in the cemetery and it looked like the image of his brother, Dr. KYLE. Robert's horse shyed away from the apparition. Robert called out to the ghost "Jim, is that you?". The ghost made no reply, just vanished. |
