entered Statehood 10 Dec 1817 as the 20th State

Mississippi seceded from the U.S. on 09 Jan 1861. It was the 2nd of 11 states that joined the Confederate States of America. CSA, also known as the Confederacy, was the government formed by the southern states that seceded from the United States during the period of the American Civil War.
