*County no longer exists
  • Dorsey County was formed from Bradley, Dallas, Jefferson & Lincoln. It was renamed Cleveland in 1885

  • Lovely County was formed from Crawford & the Lovely Purchase. It included more of present day Okla than present day Ark. The Okla portion of the county was lost to Ark with the Cherokee Treaty of 1828. The remaining land was given to Washington County

  • Old Miller County was formed from Hempstead County. In 1828 a boundary change left old Miller entirely in Texas - it was abolished to create Red River Co, TX

  • New Madrid County, Missouri extended through much of Arkansas. When the Missouri Territory sub-divided, boundaries placed New Madrid inside the borders of Missouri. It was one of Missouri's earliest counties. The town of New Madrid was founded in 1783 and the county was organized in 1812. First courts met in New Madrid, Missouri - court records prior to 1816 are missing. The New Madrid earthquake of 1811, was felt from Boston, MA, Philadelphia, PA, Richmond, VA & Charleston, SC to the Rocky Mountains.

  • Sarber County was formed from Franklin, Scott, Yell & Johnson - name changed to Logan 1875
