Georgia
entered Statehood 02 Jan 1788 as the 4th State.

In 1765, Georgia's colonial assembly divided the land south of the Altamaha River into four additional parishes, given the colony a total of 12 parishes. Following the Treaty of Augusta in 1773, a large area of Creek and Cherokee lands to the north of Augusta was ceded to Georgia. This land was not designated as a parish, rather becoming known as "Ceded Lands." After the Revolution, thousands of settlers from other states moved to Georgia looking for cheap land. By 1800, Georgia consisted of 24 counties.
Georgia seceded from the U.S. on 19 Jan 1861. It was the 5th of 11 states that joined the Confederate States of America. CSA, also known as the Confederacy, was the government formed by the southern states that seceded from the United States during the period of the American Civil War.

* Walton County, Georgia was formed erroneously by the State of Georgia inside North Carolina's boundaries in 1803. This caused quite a bit of confusion at the time. The county boundaries are impossible to figure out, but was in the area of modern Jackson and Transylvania Counties. In those days (1803-1812) the area was also claimed by Buncombe and Haywood Counties.
