Notes on Arthur Finney - When Grice School was being consolidated with Harmony Schools it caused a great deal of arguments in the surrounding communities. When the piano was moved to Harmony, Mr Finney & other men from the Community went and retrieved it. Mr Finney sat in the back of a pickup playing the piano all the way back to Grice.

Crosby Florence lived in the Rhonesboro Community & at one time he & his brother Mack were managers of their father, W.E. Florence's, store in Rhonesboro. In 1909 Mack purchased the store from W.E. Crosby. He operated the store until about 1922.

Crosby & Mack married sisters, Mable & Grace Schrum. Neither had children. In 1905, Mack married Grace & in 1910, Crosby married Mable. The 2 couples lived together for about 10 years preceeding the death of Mack at which time, Grace continued to live with Crosby & Mable.

Odie Gipson, brother of Herman, married and had one daughter. While he was in service during WWI, his wife and daughter died (flu?). Odie did not return home for about 20 some odd years, leaving his family to think he was dead. During the late 1950's early 1960's he worked for my grandparents on their farm. He was a quiet man. He did like "moonshine" however, and he would disappear for days into the woods. My cousin and I used to find quart jars of moonshine hidden in the barn and we would dutifully take it to our grandmother who would, in turn, pour it down the drain - all the while verbally chastising the moonshiners. But both my grandparents had admiration for Odie and tolerated his battle with the "spirits". Odie later married Effie Pearl DAVIDSON 1903-1994, was the sister of Susie, wife of Herman. Both were the daughters of Mollisia Cross & Tom Davidson. Effie was the widow of Aubie L ADDISON 1900-1966.

Around 1890 John J Grice opened a store and post office in Grice (then Hamil's Chapel). The post office became known as Grice, but the church continued for several years to be known as Hamil's Chapel.
