Driving Directions

Go West on Hwy 154 out of Gilmer - Turn right on FM 852 (just outside the city limits) - About 14 miles you will come to a cross road (on the left should be an empty lot next to a log home) - Turn left - The cemetery is about 1/4 miles on the left. Antioch Baptist Church is within view on the right.

Euell & Mattie HALLENQUEST BELL Euell was the son of Robert E BELL & Emma Amanda Thompson Allen Bell. Mattie was the daughter of Burley C & Maggie A POOLE HALLENQUIST, both buried at Perryville. Euell was the 1/2 brother to J.T. Allen.

Notes on Jesse Thomas BRANAN. Mr. BRANAN came to Texas before the Civil War with his wife, Mary Giles. After Mary's death, he married Emma Arrington Tillery. When Mr Branan died one of his former slaves asked to come to his funeral. A chair was put at the back door for him to sit in.

Mr Branan had at least 1 daughter by Mary. He and Emma did not have any children.

Many area baptisms were performed at Mr Branan's pond. Later after Mr. Branan's death, Arter Dacus bought Jesse Branan's place. Baptisms were still held at the old Branan pond. Later (early 1940's) Arter broke the dam on the pond to give him more pasture land. After that, baptisms were in Little Cypress Creek (west of Annie B [Bell] Gibson's house). Later Dwight Dacus' built a pond and baptisms were held in his pond until the baptismal was built in Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.
