created by an Act of the Mississippi Territory dated 06
Dec 1816, named for Major L.P. Montgomery/TN (County Seat
- Montgomery)( State Capital)
Portions of Montgomery County were used to form
Dallas County in 1818 & part of Russell County in
1830

- Dallas County was
created by the Alabama Territorial legislature on 09 Feb 1818,
from Montgomery County, a portion of the
Creek cession of 09 Aug 1814 - named for A.J. Dallas, US
Sec. of Treasury/PA (County Seat - Selma)
Portions of Dallas County were used to form Russell
County in 1830
1830 - Lowndes County was formed 20 Jan 1830 from parts of Butler, Dallas & Montgomery Counties - named for Congressman William Lowndes from South Carolina. The first census taken in Lowndes was in 1830 (County Seat - Hayneville)

- Russell County was
created by an act of the Alabama General Assembly on 18
Dec 1832, from former Creek Indian territory - Colonel
Gilbert C. Russell of Mobile, a U.S. military officer who
fought in the Creek Wars- (first county seat was
established at Girard. The county seat was moved to Seale
in 1868 & to Phenix City in the 1930s.)
Portions of Russell County were used to form Lee
County in 1866
