Last Will & Testament of Nathaniel Dacus
signed 15 Nov 1831 - probated 30 Mar 1835


I, Nathaniel DACUS Senr. of Greenville Dist. being in a low state of health, but of sound mind and memory. I will unto my loving wife Elizabeth DACUS during her natural life my plantation whereon I now live, also the following Negroes, Nappy, Magor, Ritter, Liza, and her two children, Silvia and Merida. Also enough feed for the year, my sorrel mare called Shiney and the yellow mare, two cows and calves as she may choose. With household and kitchen furniture, at her death to be sold and equally divided between all my children. I will to my son John A. DACUS my young sorrel horse to be delivered at my death. The remainder of my real and personal property to be sold and my just debts paid, and the balance equally divided between all my children.

I am unsure if Nancy is Nathanial's daughter or step-daughter. I have been told by some of his descendants that she is a daughter, and by other descendants of his, that she is a step-daughter, daughter of his 1st wife, Martha DUPREE.

Last Will & Testament of Wm Dacus
signed 15 Feb 1839 - probated 15 Jul 1839

I, Wm DACUS Senr. of Greenville Dist. being of sound mind and memory, but advanced in age, and feeble health. I give to my grand children, the children. of my decd. son Pascal DACUS the following Negroes, Lancaster, Creecy, Andrew, Mary, Sarah, Peggy, Isham, Tom, Caroline, Little Mary, Frances, and Elias to be divided between them after my death. I give to my daughter. Polly CURETON the following Negroes, Cloe, Ritter, Jack, Randal, Daniel, Gilbert, Clarissa, Eliza, Ben, Hammett, Martha and John to her and her heirs at my death. I give to my grandson Wm DACUS, Junr. the whole of my household and kitchen furniture in fee simple at my death. I give to each of my grandsons a horse, and should there be any other left after they are all supplied, they are to be equally divided amongst my grandchildren. I give to my grand children. share and share alike the whole of my stock, after my death, meaning by this clause cattle, hogs, sheep, etc. If I live until my present crop is planted, the plantation to remain as is till crop is gathered, then the whole crop give to my grandson Wm DACUS Junr. I will my farming utensils may be equally divided at my death between my daughter. Polly CURETON and the children of my late son Pascal DACUS. I appoint my son in law John CURETON executor.
