Dacus Family Cemetery & Shoals
Greenville County, South Carolina
Dacusville, S.C.

Dacus Family Cemetery, Greenville County, South Carolina
As you can see that the cemetery is little more than a wooded area .. There are some "native" rocks in place for headstones .. Any inscription has long since eroded.

Among those buried there are:

Dacus Shoals, Greenville County, South Carolina
The shoals - beautiful, peaceful & primitive - Located behind brush and woods, just a few yards from the cemetery. It is well worth the trek for this view.

Pickens County, South Carolina

"Nestled in the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge in the extreme part of Pickens County is the little community of Dacusville and their one stop light"

Pickens County, South Carolina, located in the NW corner of the state, was named for Andrew PICKENS (1739-1817), a Revolutionary War hero. The county was formed from part of the Pendleton District (formerly Washington District) in 1826. In 1753, the British built Fort Prince George as protection from the Indians. The Fort was the site of several battles fought during the Cherokee Indian War of 1756. The Cherokee town of Old Seneca was later destroyed by American Troops in 1776. The earliest European settlers in this region were Indian traders. Archibald DACUS (1769-1832), son of John W. DACUS, Sr owned land where he had an Indian trading post, along with a mail stop. This was long after the Cherokee War.

The present day Secona area of Pickens County is the most eastward Cherokee Village in history. Historians have some evidence of smaller units of Indians living in upper and western Greenville County after the late 1760's.
