19 Oct 1967 - Bill H King - (Pittsburg Gazette) - Former Resident dies in Houston, Bill H King of Houston, passed away at his home Tuesday. He was born July 5, 1910, in Camp County. He leaves a wife, Lena Mae (Hutto), two sons, Jerry King of Houston, Perry King of Joinerville, one daughter, Mrs Ina Mae Anderson, Houston, one sister, Polly MacLaughlin, Houston and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday at Matinburg Baptist Church with the Rev. Howard Bradshaw and Rev. W.C. Beasley officiating. Burial services were in Matinburg Cemetery (Camp Co, TX). Pallbearers were Taylor Harris, Howard Steele, Joe Gray, Bobby Las, Buster Julian and Joe Harrel.

11 May 1936 - Ellis Carroll King - (Pittsburg Gazette) Services for Ellis Carroll King, 79, of Pittsburg, were held Thursday at the Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sam Jones officiating. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery (Camp Co, TX). Mr King died Tuesday, May 2, at his residence after a lengthy illness. He was born Aug. 3, 1909 in Camp County and was a lifetime resident. He operated a grocery store for 35 years in Camp County and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice King, Pittsburg; one son, George King, Houston; one grandson, Collin King; one niece and two nephews.

1943 - Dewey M. King Dies at Kerrville - Dewey M King, 45, of Overton passed away Monday at Kerrville, where he had been sick for some time. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the home of Mr. an Mrs. W.W. Chance, Rev. Mr. Morgan of Atlanta conducting the services, assisted by Rev. M.S. Jordan and Rev. B.L. Owens of Pittsburg. Interment was in the Leesburg cemetery (Camp Co, TX).

Surviving are his wife, a son, Robert Shell King, in the air corps, his mother, Mrs. H.G. King, four brothers and three sisters, R.S. King, H.G. King, Jr, Roger King, Gibbs King, Mrs W.W. Chance, Mrs C.C. Vaiden and Mrs. Luther Patterson.

Deceased was born and reared near Pittsburg, but for several years had resided in Overton. He served in World War I and was a member of the American Legion.

Henry Gibbs King

1928 - Henry G King Dies At Denison - Friends of Henry G King, one of Camp County's most prominent citizens, were saddened Tuesday when news was received of his death at the home of his son, R.S. King, at Denison. Mr. King had been in bad health for some time and went to Denison the Sunday before his death hoping to recuperate. Death came two days (03 Jul 1928) later at the age of 79.

The body was brought to Pittsburg Wednesday and taken to his home west of the city where funeral services were held yesterday (05 Jul 1928) afternoon by Rev. J.F. Bevel, assisted by Rev. J.F. Garrett and Rev. Leo Hopkins. The body was interred at the Leesburg Cemetery (Camp Co, TX).

Mr King is survived by his wife and seven children. He was born in Alabama and came to Texas in 1872, locating near Leesburg where he engaged in farming until he retired a few years ago. The following children survive Mr. King, Mrs L.Z. Patterson, Mrs. C.C. Vaiden, Mrs W.W. Chance, R.S. King, H.G. King, Jr, Dewey King and Gibs [sic] King.

Deceased was a member of the Methodist Church. He was a man of strong convictions and during the active years of his life he took a great interest in political matters. He loved his family and friends with an intensity that drew him close to hundreds .... his community and the county at large.

1928 - Pittsburg Man Dies While Visiting Here - Henry Gibbs King, 79 years old, a retired merchant, planter and land owner of Pittsburg, Texas died a the home of his son, R.S. King, 1004 West Main Street, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Mr King came to Denison Sunday for a visit with his son here.

He was born in Alabama July 1, 1849. He had resided in the Pittsburg vicinity for many years. Mr King was a member of the Methodist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. L.Z. Patterson and Mrs. C.C. Vaiden of Newsom, Texas and Mrs. W.W. Chance of Pittsburg and five sons, W.C. King - Kansas City, R.M. King - Denver, Colo, H.G. King, Jr - Dallas, D.W. King - Pittsburg and R.S. King - Denison. The body left this morning on Katy for Pittsburg where funeral services ....

1970 - Henry King, Dies in Dallas - Henry (Hobson) Grady King of 4602 Sycamore St, Dallas, passed away in Gaston Hospital Monday, Jun 29, following a short illness.

Born January 15, 1894, in Camp County, he was a resident of Dallas area for about 40 years. He had been a stock broker with Merrill - Lynch - Pierce - Finner-Smith.

Funeral services were in Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m., Wednesday morning, June 1, with the Rev. Jewel Strong officiating.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Betty Clements, Dallas; Mrs. Paul E Stevens, Hawaii; one brother, R.S. King, Pittsburg; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Vaiden, Mrs Ellen Chance, Pittsburg; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Doyle Hudnall, Paul Clayton, Jr, Robert Shell Kin, Edd Patterson, Fred Harrison and Floyd McNutt.

Burial was in Leesburg Cemetery (Camp Co, TX) under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home.

23 Oct 1966 - Henry G King, III - King Services In Pittsburg - Funeral services for Henry G Kin, III, 46, a native of Dallas and employee of Southwestern Wheel and Manufacturing Company where held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the First Presbyterian Church here.

Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Rev. H.H. Hunter officiated.

Mr King died Friday. he was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Masonic Lodge. He had been ill for many years.

Surviving are a son, Henry G King, IV, Dallas; a daughter, Mrs Warren Anderson, Garland his mother, Mrs Annette King, Dallas; father, H.G. King, Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Ceilley, Dallas, and Mrs. Paul E Stevens, Japan.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Viola King; one daughter, Mrs Mary Allen; one brother, Carroll King, one stepson, Virgil Jester; and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Lillian McCall, all of Pittsburg.

31 Jan 1991- Robert S King - (Pittsburg Gazette) - Services for Robert S King, 69, of Overton were Tuesday, Jan 22 (1991) at First United Methodist Church in Overton (TX) with Rev. Daniel T Hanson officiating. Burial was in Mason Cemetery in Arp under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home of Overton.

Mr King died Sunday, Jan 20, in a Tyler hospital after a lengthy illness. Born Dec. 21, 1921, in Pittsburg, Mr King was a longtime Overton resident. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force as a tail gunner on 54 B-17 missions. He retired in 1986 as plant foreman for the New London Exxon Plant. Mr King was a member of Rocky Mount Masonic Lodge No. 63 and First Methodist Church of Overton.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce King of Overton; two sons and on daughter-in-law, Don King of Kingwood, Scott and Brenda King of Bay City; and two grandchildren.

1924 - Tom H. King dies in Texarkana - (Pittsburg Gazette) - Mr. Tom H. King, a long time resident of Camp County, died at Texarkana Saturday night after an illness of two or three weeks. His body was brought back home and interred in the Matinburg Cemetery, Rev. T.A. Johns conducting the services. Mr. King is survived by his wife (Julia F Nix) and several children ("Beza", John Tandy, Homer D, Thomas O, Katie L, Winnie, John L) (preceded by Zula & infant son) (several grandchildren & one great granddaughter, Doris Cross). He was 69 years old and came to Texas from Alabama, his native state, at the age of 18 years. He was a good man and had many friends who were pained to learn of his death.

1956 - W.G. King Dies In Houston - Funeral services for W.G. King were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Ellis Funeral Chapel. Rev. E.S. Shirley officiated, assisted by Rev. H.W. Koening. Burial was at Leesburg Cemetery (Camp Co, TX).

Mr. King passed away Friday in Houston. He suffered a heart attack. He was born in Pittsburg Sept. 21, 1883, but had spent most of his life away from here.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Winston Jackson of Houston; three brothers, R.S. King of Pittsburg, R.M. King of Colorado Springs, Colo, H.G. King of Dallas, three sisters; Mrs. L.Z. Patterson of Gilmer, Mrs. W.W. Chance of Pittsburg and Mrs C.C. Vaiden of Newsome; and two grandchildren, Ann and Tommy Jackson of Houston.

Born Mar 5, 1907 in Durant, Okla, she moved to Ashland in 1978. Mrs King was a retired public school teacher. Survivors include two daughters; Nelda Casavant of Ashland (Mass) and Martha Potter of Manhattan, Kansas; and five grandchildren.

Rev. Edward S Shirley of the First Baptist Church, assisted by Ref. P. Wooten, conducted services. Burial was at Matinburg Cemetery (Camp Co, TX).

Mrs King was a native of Plainville, GA and came to Texas with her parents at the age of 13 years. The family first settled at Salitto, had lived at Matinburg Community and later moved to Pittsburg. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs James Riggs of Midland, one brother, Joe Gunn of Hughes Springs and one sister, Mrs T.B. Kelly of Pittsburg. (preceded by her husband, John "Tandy" King)

(Note: My aunt, Melba Lee Cross, was named after Magge "Melba" Gunn King who was the wife of John "Tandy" King. John "Tandy" was brother to Beza King Cross, grandmother of Melba Lee Cross.)

Mrs King died Thurs, Jan 10, at the Pittsburg Nursing Center after a lengthy illness. She was born in Camp County 12 Oct 1889 and had been a resident of this area all of her life. She was a housewife and a member of the Leesburg Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs Wilma Steadman of Granbury; one granddaughter; three great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.

19 Feb 1919 - Mart, Texas Newspaper - Mrs. L.L. King Dies - One of the saddest occurrences recorded in Mart lately is the death of Mrs. L.L. King, age 23, wife of Prof. King, a teacher in the Mart High School, which occurred about midnight of Wednesday, Feb 19, 1919.

An attack of influenza was followed by pneumonia, resulting in the death of the mother, just half a day after their infant child died, it having lived only a few hours. She is survived by her husband and little daughter, Mattie Lee King, who was scarcely 2 years old, and her father, J.C. Overcash, of Buffalo, Texas, who with an aunt, Mrs. Nettles, of Otto, was present at the time of her death.

The bodies - in the same coffin - were carried to Buffalo, Texas, Thursday for interment in the cemetery of the mother's old home town.

Prof. Willis accompanied the party going from Mart, and almost the entire High school was present, with the teachers at the southbound t rain in the testimony of their sympathy for the bereaved husband and his family. School was suspended for the morning.

The entire community sympathizes with he bereaved ones.

1943 - Mrs. Maggie King, Pioneer Dies - Funeral services for Mrs Maggie C King, 89, widow of Henry G King, were held Sunday afternoon from the .. Chapel church, Rev. H.R. Morgan of Atlanta officiating, assisted by Rev. B.L. Owens of Pittsburg and Rev. Roy Bal.. of Newsome. W.A. Kennard made a brief talk. Final rites were said at the Leesburg cemetery (Camp Co, TX).

Active pallbearers were: A. Ellison, Louie B. Hess, C. Nabors, Percy Spratt, Jack Harrison and Robert Mattison. Honorary pallbearers were: A. Tapp, W.A. Kennedy, Bib Fi...er, Dr. R.Y. Lacy, Jas Cl.. John D Shell, John Brison, .. Lockett, T.J. Julius and W. Berry.

Deceased passed away Saturday morning (28 Aug 1943) at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.W. Chance after an illness of several months. Surviving are the following children: Mrs. W.W. Chance, Mrs C.C. Vaiden, Mrs. L.Z. Patterson of Leesburg; R.S. King (of) Denison, H.G. King, Jr (of) Dallas, R.M. King (of) Denver and W.G. King (of) Cincinnati. Several grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren also survive.

The husband of Mrs. King passed away in 1928. Prior to her marriage she was Miss Maggie Sayles. Born near Jefferson, Texas, she came with her parents to this county, which was then Upshur, at a very young age, residing here continuously until her death. During her long and useful life she was identified with the religious and civic development of her community and was always interested in the material growth of the country.

Her personality was brightened at all times with cheerfulness, unselfishness and kindness as it was out of respect for her exemplified life that hundreds on Sunday paid homage to her memory.

Mrs King died Saturday at her residence. She was born June 9, 1924, in Malone and resided in Tyler more than 40 years. She was a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church, Seekers Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, Women's Symphony League, Hollytree Country Club and Tyler Petroleum Club. She was a former member of East Texas Dental Auxiliary and Kathryn Speas Garden Club.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John & Nancy King, Tyler; four daughters and son-in-law, Beth and Ian Lerman, Dallas, Terry and Jim Churchwell, Gloria and Bob Burdick, Kay and Mike Breedlove, all of Tyler; one sister, Gwen Shive, Austin and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Dr. Martin Blanchard, James R "Bob" Breedlove, Dr. Rick Coker, Randy Fouts, Randy Honea, Dr Paul Latta, Steve Manley, Tom Hudd, John Stephenson, Jim Teeling and Malcolm Young, Jr. Honorary pallbearers included: John Allen, Ray Breedlove, L.D. Craig, Tome Lowe, Dr Robert Marshall, Richard Ray, Mac Shaw, Alex Woldert, Malcolm Young, Sr, Bill Zeiss, Mel Lovelady, Dr Gene Earl, Dr Robert Rossman, Dr Pat Thomas, Dr Arnold Wharton, Dr Arielle Lee and staff of Tyler Hematology and Oncology. 1960 - Robert King Vaiden Buried Here Saturday - Funeral services were held from the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel here Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Robert King Vaiden of Houston who was stricken suddenly and died at his home there Jan. 1st. Rev. B.R. Shelton, pastor of the First Methodist Church, conducted the services. Burial was in the Leesburg Cemetery (Camp Co, TX).

Mr Vaiden was born Jan 27, 1911, at Hernando, Miss. He was married in August 1939, to Miss Johnnie Mason. He made his decision for Christ in early life and was a member of the Longpoint Baptist Church of Houston. Survivors include his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Rex Williams, one granddaughter, all of Houston, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Vaiden of Pittsburg and one sister, Mrs. Willard Ault of Alma, Nebraska.
