of early Lowndes & Russell Co, AL

There obviously were at least 3-4 separate Bryan families in Montgomery/Dallas/Lowndes Co, AL in the early 1800's - early 40's, My Henry Bryan's family (formerly of Georgia) being one - Rev Richard Bryan's widow & children (formerly of SC) being another and James Bryan children (born in SC) being a 3rd. Then there was David Bryan, Edward Bryan (formerly of NC), Nathan Bryan (father-in-law of Redding?), Redding Bryan (of GA), Samuel Bryan, Stephen Bryan and Wade Bryan (formerly of SC) all either owning land or appearing on the 1830-1840 census that do not have a direct lineage, that I can find, to my Henry nor Rev Richard Bryan.

Redding/Ridden/Redden/Reading Bryan - Lowndes Co, AL
(son of Unknown Bryan)
One of 9 Bryan families on the 1830 Lowndes Co, AL census.

Redding Bryan is one of 3 Bryans on the 1830 Lowndes Co, AL census that I have yet to place - Nicholas & Wade being the other 2. Redding is found as Ridden & Reading also. He is a land owner in the 1830's Lowndes Co, AL on the same tracts as Edward Bryan & Richard J Bryan. Edward Bryan, born 1805 reportedly in NC. Richard J was the son of Rev. Richard Bryan & Elizabeth Harper, formerly of Colleton Co, SC. Redding born abt 1805 reported his birthplace as Georgia. I have found no connection with Rev. Richard Bryan's family and Redding.

Redding is found 1850 Union Parish, La census living near N.M. (Needham) Bryan & Needham's brother, Henry R Bryan. Needham and Henry R. are the sons of Thomas Bryan and they are the grandsons of my Henry Bryan.

Redding moved between 1858-1860 to Ashley Co, Arkansas where he is found on the 1860 census living between the BOYD & DOWNING families.

According to a Lowndes County Deed 05 Feb 1834, wherein, Redding sold 39 acres to a Mr. Soles, lists Redding's wife as "Elizabeth". She was born bet 1800-1810 and died before 1850.

Note: Elizabeth Bryan Pou Groom & her husband, Elijah Groom & her brother, Needham, had moved from Alabama to Union Parish, LA by 1846. Living next to Ridden were Henry R BRYAN & Needham M BRYAN, brothers of Elizabeth Bryan Pou Groom.

Bryan Family of Johnston Co, N.C. Records 1759-1825

There was a Reddin/Reading Bryan, son of John Marshall Bryan (1753 NC-1815 GA) & Unknown REDDIN. He is listed in Land Deeds for Johnston Co, NC as is John Bryan, Sr (of Burke Co, GA). However, the dates of some of the records and the date for the birth of Redding from Lowndes Co, AL would make him a minor during the below transactions.

John Bryan, Sr was granted land in Johnston Co, N.C. in March 1799. Records show he was living in Burke Co, GA by 1802 while selling lands in Johnston Co, NC. In 1804 he grants power of attorney to one Wm Bryan of Johnston Co, NC "to collect debts due me & sell all my lands in Johnston County". John is deceased by March 1818 and Reading D Bryan is the executor of his estate. It seems unlikely that Redding born 1802 would be an executor at age 16. Therefore, Redding born 1802 could possibly be the son of Redding named 1818 as executor of John Bryan (of Burke Co, GA) estate. However, he could also be a nephew and named as the namesake of Redding found named 1818 Johnston Co, NC records.
