| The
Joseph Pou House |
| The home of
Joseph POU, built in Columbus, Georgia
cir 1902, was restored in 1993, by The Historic
Columbus Foundation. They deemed the house worth
saving due to it being one of the finest
Victorian Gothic Cottages in the are. Today the
Pou House is not only a proud symbol of Columbus'
Historic past, but also a stunning example of how
an old home can be adapted for modern living. |

| Preservationist Paul
Lindquist stepped in, and helped to move the home
to the downtown area. He disassembled the roof,
removed the chimneys and stripped plaster from
the interior walls. Paul had to disassemble the
roof, remove the two chimneys and stripped
plaster from the interior walls. |
|
|
| The shell of the house
was placed on a flatbed truck and gently
transported across town. Once the house was
located at the new site, Paul had a new
foundation built, and restored the roof and
clapboard siding. In addition, missing pieces of
the gingerbread wood trim were replaced to match
the originals. |
|
|
| Inside, workers
reconfigured the walls to convert the house into
a duplex apartment. To keep the house historic,
damaged doors were replaced with others from the
period. |
|
|
| And fireplaces were
restored to their original condition. |
