Julia BRYAN was the 11th of 12 children born to Allen & Sarah. She was 6 years old when she moved with her parents and siblings from Russell Co, AL to Panola Co, TX. She appears on the Woods 1863 School Roster (Panola Co, TX)

Julia & Edward moved from Panola Co, Texas to Hays Co, TX about 1884, sixteen years after their marriage.

In May 1940, Julia's story of her journey to Texas was printed in the San Marcos (Hays Co, TX) Newspaper

The records show that Edward DeSTIGNER, also borne as Edward DeSTEIGNER, not found as Edward DeSTEIGUER or as Edward De STIGER, private, Company G, 11 Missouri Infantry, Confederate States Army, enlisted August 18, 1862, at Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the period of 3 years or the war. Company muster for August 31 to December 31, 1862, shows that he was promoted to a regimental steward. Field and Staff Muster Roll for March and April 1863, shows that he was assigned to duty September 16, 1862, by Col. HUNTER, per S.O. He was paroled at Shreveport, Louisiana, June 7, 1865, with the rank of Assistant Surgeon.
