GIEZENDANNER, GIEZEDANER, DIESSENDANNER

My GIESSENDANNER family began it's American Roots with the arrival of the Reverends John U, Giessendanner, I & nephew, John U, Giessendanner, II ("the younger")(my 6th time maternal great grandfather) II. Other Giessendanner family members were either along with them, or followed shortly after including George Giessendanner (my 7th maternal great grandfather). They arrived from Switzerland to the predominately Swiss/German Community in Orangeburgh Township, SC about 1737.

The elder Rev. John U, I died a year later in 1838. His nephew, Rev. John U, II was also a Lutheran minister. He kept church records of marriages, baptisms & deaths for his parishioners, including the Gavin POU (1716-aft 1775) (my paternal 7th great grandfather) family who arrived in 1740.

Note: It was common, in German ancestry, for all sons to have the first name Johann (John) and all daughters to have the first name Anna or Maria. Thus the children were known by their second names.

Anno 1740
"This Book should be carefully preserved that those who may wish
to know of their family may find it in the Book of Record
