I, A.B. (Andrew Bacon) BRYAN do hereby make application to the Commissioner of Pensions for a pension to be granted me under the Act passed by the Thirty-third Legislature of the State of Texas and approved, April 7, A.D. 1913 on the grounds:

I enlisted and served in the military service of the Confederate States during the War Between the States of the United States, and that I did not desert the Confederate service, but during said war I was loyal and true to my duty, and never at any time voluntarily abandoned my post of duty in the said service; or (that I was in the service of the State of Texas during the war, to protect said State against the Indians and Mexicans for more than 6 months). That I was honorably discharged of surrendered .. at close of war I was at home on 30 day furlough. Before expiration of furlough we were advised not to return as the war was over. This was in April 1865. that I have been a bona fide citizen of the State since prior to Jan 1, A.D. 1900, and have been continuously since a citizen of the State of Texas. I do further state that I do not hold any National, State, city or county office which pays me a salary of fees of $300.00 per annum, not have I an income from any other employment of other source whatever which amounts to $300.00 per annum, not do I receive from any source whatever money or other means of support amounting in value to the sum of $300.00 per annum, nor do I own in my right, nor does any one hold in trust for my benefit or use, nor does my wife own, nor does any one hold in trust for my wife, estate or property, either real, personal or mixed either in fee of for life, of the assessed value of over one thousand dollars, exclusive of a home of the value of not more than $1,000.00; nor do I receive an aid or pension from any other State, or from the United States, or from any other source, and that I am not an inmate of the Confederate Home, and I do further state that the answers given to the following questions are true:

NOTE: Parents & most siblings of Andrew came to Texas in April of 1855. Either he was off by a year, or he didn't come to Texas until the following year with his sister. (see question #3)

    What is your physical condition?
        Good, but from age and a cripple hand can not do any work at all

        Texas

Before me Edgar W HOOKER, County Judge of Shelby County, State of Texas, on this day personally appeared the undersigned witnesses who was personally known to me to be creditable citizens, who, being by me duly sworn, on oath state that they personally know that Mr. A.B. BRYAN, applicant for pension and that they personally know that the said A.B. BRYAN has been a bona fide resident citizen of the State of Texas since prior to Jan 1 A.D. 1900, and that they have no interest in his claim.

(If possible, the two witnesses should have served with the applicant in the army, and, if so, let them, or either state in their oath, their source of knowledge; also any information regarding applicant's army services)

Before me Edgar W HOOKER, County Judge of Shelby County, State of Texas, on this day personally appeared Asa DAVIS who being by me sworn, on oath state that they are personally acquainted with the foregoing applicant, and that the facts set forth and statements made in his application are correct and true, to the best of their knowledge and belief, and that they have no interest in this claim and said applicant's habits are good and free from dishonor. And I further make oath tot he following facts touching the applicant's served in the Confederate Army: I knew A.B. BRYAN in Panola County, Texas before the Civil War. I knew then A.B. BRYAN enlisted and served in Co "E", 3rd Texas Reg't of Cavalry and served from 1861 until the close of the War. He served about 4 years. My reason for knowing this is that I was with said A.B. BRYAN during the entire time of War. I was in same Reg't & Co and I know that said A.B. BRYAN served honorably until close of war and never deserted his post of duty at any time. I have know said BRYAN personally since the close of the War. I joined this Co "E", 3rd Texas abut 1862, but know that BRYAN joined in 1861.

CERTIFICATE OF STATE AND COUNTY ASSESSOR
I, Blaine WOODS, State and County Assessor in the County of Shelby, State of Texas, do certify that A.B. BRYAN or his wife, or his trustee, or trustee for his wife, who name is signed to the foregoing application for a pension under the Act of the 33rd Legislature, approved Apr 7, 1913, is charged on the land and person property rolls of said county with real estate, real personal and mixed, at the assessed value of Seven Hundred Fifty ($750) dollars.

The records show that A.B. BRYAN, private and corporal, Company E, 3rd Texas Cavalry (name not found as 3d Texas Infantry), Confederate States Army, enlisted Jun 3, 1861. On the roll of the company for May and June 1864 (last roll on file), he was reported present. No later record of him has been found.

APPLICATION FOR MORTUARY WARRANT

I, Howard BRYAN, do hereby certify that I am the person to whom is entrusted the paying of the accounts and indebtedness of the late A.B. BRYAN, who was a pensioner of the State of Texas and whose file number was 23714 and whose original county was Shelby.

The said pensioner A.B. BRYAN died on the 24 day of Nov 1926 in the town of Tenaha County of Shelby, Texas.

The pensioner died in the home of Mrs R.B. BOULAND who was related to the pensioner as Daughter.

That the warrant, which application is hereby made for, shall be applied to paying all or part of the funeral expenses incurred by the said pensioner A.B. BRYAN

I further certify that the warrant for the current quarter has not been cashed by the pensioner to the best of my knowledge and belief.

I am related to pensioner as Son that my postoffice address it Tenaha Texas

That said body was prepared for burial by me on the 24 day of Nov 1926 and that I am of the opinion that warrant herein applied for should be issued to the said Howard BRYAN who makes the forgoing application

I W.E. DeBERRY, M.D. do certify that I am a practicing physician ant that I attended A.B. BRYANT in his last illness and am of the opinion that his ailments were a Hemrage [verbatim] on Brain.

I further certify that I am of the opinion that the Mortuary Warrant above requested should be issued in the name of the aforementioned applicant, in accordance with Act passed by the 38th Legislature and approved March 2, 1923.
